School—Parent Compacts

What is a School-Parent Compact?

Updated November 3, 2025 — A School-Parent Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach grade-level standards.

Effective compacts:

Link to goals of the school improvement plan
Focus on student learning skills
Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality instruction
Share strategies parents can use at home
Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress

The parents, students, and staff of Valley Point Middle School developed this School-Parent Compact for Achievement. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, parents added ideas to make them more specific, and students told us what would help them learn. Meetings are held annually to review the Compact and make changes based on student needs.

Parents are welcome to contribute comments at any time. If you would like to share a suggestion, please contact Ben Hunt at (706) 277-9662.

Goals for Student Achievement

District Goals

Goal 1: Increase the WCS graduation rate from 91.13% to 93.13% over the next three years for all students.
Goal 2: Reduce the achievement gap(s) in English Language Arts & Mathematics.
Goal 3: To increase the capacity of all WCS teachers and leaders to enhance student learning through evidence-based professional learning.

School Goals and Focus Areas
Valley Point Middle administrators and teachers have studied our student performance data to determine the most important areas of improvement for our school.

Goal 1: Increase achievement levels on English Language Arts and Math Georgia Milestones by 3% in 2025-2026.
Goal 2: Increase achievement levels of English Language Learners on the ACCESS test by 3% in 2025-2026.
Goal 3: The percentage of students attending school 90% or more on school days will improve by 3% in 2025-2026.

Activities to Build Partnerships

Valley Point Middle is committed to providing ways to build a deeper partnership between home and school. The following events offer parents the chance to work together with our school to provide fun, educational opportunities for all students:

6th Grade Night: July 31, 2025 - 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Schedule Pickup: August 4, 2025 - 1:30pm - 3:30pm
Winter Wonderfest: December 9, 2025
STEM Night: March 24, 2026

Valley Point Middle is committed to frequent two-way communication with families about children’s learning. Some of the ways you can expect us to reach you are:

1. Monthly “check-in” notes or phone calls
2. Updates on the school website, social media, and current grades in Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
3. Newsletters mailed out bimonthly.
4. Class Tag/Remind text messages.

Teachers, Parents & Students — Together, for Success

6th Grade

Teacher/School Responsibilities

The 6th grade team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some of our key connections with families will be:

Provide student with his/her reading level and help him/her find a book in the media center on his/her level.
Encourage students to set aside 30-45 minutes a night for studying.
- 10-20 minutes reading
- 10 minutes math facts
- 20 minutes writing and reviewing class notes
Student Google Classrooms will contain assignments, due dates, and upcoming events.
Provide up-to-date grades and assignments within Google Classroom.
Incorporate login and usage of Infinite Campus for student ownership and understanding of assignments.

Family Responsibilities at Home

Valley Point Middle School parents can
support students’ success in reading and math at home. Families may have other ideas to add to this list:

Provide my child with a quiet place to read each night at home.
Encourage my child to focus on homework for at least 25-30 minutes, offer help if they need it, and set a timer to keep him/her on track.
Check my child’s Google Classroom daily for assignments, due dates, and upcoming events.
Download the Infinite Campus parent app to get current grades and assignments.
Join Remind and/or Class Tag.

Student Responsibilities

Valley Point students can succeed in school and can make connections between learning at home and school in these ways:

Bring home/show paperwork to parent/guardian(s).
Adhere to 6th grade behavior contract.
Studying and/or reading each night for at least 25-30 minutes, asking parent/guardian(s) for help if needed, and using a timer to keep on track.
Write down daily assignments, due dates, and upcoming events.
Let parent/guardian(s) know when there is a note from teachers regarding behavior or academic progress. Also check Class Tag and Remind with parents.
Check with teachers about missing assignments and low grades. Remind parents to check current grades and missing assignments on the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus.
Get at least 9 hours of sleep and eat breakfast every morning.

7th Grade

Teacher/School Responsibilities

The 7th grade team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some of our key connections
with families will be:

Provide student with his/her reading level and help him/her find a book in the media center on his/her level.
Encourage students to set aside 45-60 minutes a night for studying.
- 15-20 minutes reading
- 10 minutes math facts
- 30 minutes writing and reviewing class notes
Student Google Classrooms will contain assignments, due dates, and upcoming events.
Provide up-to-date grades and assignments within Google Classroom. Incorporate login and usage of Infinite Campus.

Family Responsibilities at Home

Valley Point Middle School parents can
support students’ success in reading and math at home. Families may have other ideas to add to this list:

Provide my child with a quiet place to read each night at home.
Encourage my child to focus on homework for at least 25-30 minutes, offer help if they need it, set a timer to keep him/her on track, use of flash cards, and help students test themselves as a review for upcoming tests.
Check my child’s Google Classroom daily for assignments, due dates, upcoming events, and notes from teachers regarding behavior and academic progress.
Download the Infinite Campus parent app to get current grades and assignments.
Join Remind and/or Class Tag.
If you are able, utilize these tools online for extended learning:: Flocabulary, IXL, and Generation Genius.

Student Responsibilities

Valley Point students can succeed in school and can make connections between learning at home and school in these ways:

Reading a book for 20 minutes 2-3 nights a week on my reading level in a quiet place provided by my parent.
Work on homework each night for at least 30 minutes, asking my parents for help if I need it, and using a timer to keep myself on track.
Write down daily assignments, due dates, and upcoming events.
Let parents know when there is a note from teachers regarding behavior or academic progress. Also check Remind with parents.
Check with teachers about missing assignments and low grades. Remind parents to check current grades and missing assignments.
Keep up with grade checks weekly in folders.

8th Grade

Teacher/School Responsibilities

The 8th grade team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some of our key connections with families will be:

Provide student with his/her reading level and help him/her find a book in the media center on his/her level.
Encourage students to set aside 30-60 minutes a night for homework.
- 10-20 minutes reading
- 10 minutes math facts
- 30 minutes writing & reviewing class notes
Google classroom will contain assignments, due dates, upcoming events, and notes from teachers regarding behavior and academic progress.
Provide up-to-date grades and assignments within Infinite Campus as well as updating on classroom performance that will enhance or affect classroom success.

Family Responsibilities at Home

Valley Point Middle School parents can
support students’ success in reading and math at home. Families may have other ideas to add to this list:

Provide my child with a quiet place to read each night at home and limit distractions (TV, cellphone, etc).
Encourage my child to focus on homework for at least 30 minutes, offer help if they need it, set a timer to keep him/her on track.
Check my child’s Google Classroom daily for assignments, due dates, upcoming events, and notes from teachers regarding behavior and academic progress.
Download the Infinite Campus parent app to get current grades and assignments.
